GAME Orientation 2010
Welcome to MIT! Got questions? Be sure to check out our FAQ for New Students.
Schedule of Events
Wednesday, September 1
Mentor Brunch, 11:30am - 1:30pm, Bush Room (10-105)
- Stop by for free brunch and to mingle with the mentors (including those on the Mentor List) who will be available for your questions.
Thursday, September 2
Pub Crawl, Muddy Charles Pub (Walker Memorial, Bldg. 50)
- If you are the sort of person (as we organizers are) that appreciates free drinks, visit the GSC Welcome Banquet in Bldg. 50 starting at 6pm. Then join us at 8pm for a buy-your-own tour of the local bars. A good time is always had by all. 21+ Bring valid ID.
Friday, September 3
Coffee Hour, 8:30 - 9:45am, Room 5-314
- Coffee hour is a long-standing tradition in MechE, occurring every Friday morning. Come enjoy tasty treats, a rotating selection of good coffee, and the company of other grad students who are already checked out for the weekend. It's a particular point of pride to make it to coffee hour after a Pub Crawl the night before... I'm just saying.
Saturday, September 4
Harbor Cruise, 11:00 - 3:00pm, Kendall T Stop
- Bring a brown bag lunch! We will meet at the Kendall T Stop and take a ferry out the Harbor Islands. We'll spend an afternoon playing Frisbee, perhaps hiking along the beach, or whatever takes our fancy. Fare for the T and ferry is provided.
Monday, September 6
Taste of Cambridge, 2:00 - 5:00pm, Bush Room (10-105)
- Come for free food, and learn about some of the locally available dining options. We've chosen to cater from places that commonly deliver to MIT, or are within walking distance. When you are hard at work on problem sets and trying to think of food options, you'll thank us.
Friday, September 17
Barbecue, 5:30pm, Kresge Barbecue Pits
- Now your classes have started and you are settling in -- but, it's never too soon to take a break! Faculty and current MechE students are all invited, so kick off the semester with a bang at the last Orientation event. If you are not Oriented by this time, there's not much we can do but offer you another burger. Or chocolate. We organizers feel that always helps.
